The result is a harmonized blend of images that continues to be an obligatory reference point. This book compares twenty-nine projects of stores, all created in the United States from the beginning of the '90s to the present. Especially selected to reflect new trends in commercial architecture as well as the more traditional styles, the projects aim to attract a wider audience. They include architectural transformations of former SoHo art galleries into new and exclusive boutiques but these projects have also involved expansions, producing huge stores, such as the Virgin Megastore in Times Square. Aside from being valuable functional creations, these projects reflect an artistic endeavor, their design often comparable to an art gallery or small museum. Flanked by linear «museum-like» examples, the more «theatrical» projects have been designed to integrate with the merchandise 's characteristics. In these cases, a variety of architectural solutions were used to provide expression, framing and embellishing the products on display. For the most part, the interiors of the projects selected for this volume are unique and completely new design combinations, offering a stimulating and varied presentation of commercial architecture made in the USA. This volume, therefore, enriches the wealth of information provided by this series
